Finally, a Democrat Throws His Hat in the 37th State Senate District Race

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Both Too Conservative and Not Larry Sabato have reported that Del. Dave Marsden is running in the 37th District. If this is the case, then he needs to buy or rent a place in the district to qualify for the race (which will make him a carpetbagger).

What shocks me is the narrow win by Marsden in this previous election cycle (2009)? He only won by 209 votes to Kerry Bolognese.

New Congressional Districts in Virginia??

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

So says, Recovery.gov, which is the site controlled by the White House to show where the stimulus money is going. It appears that they still have not fixed the site, as it shows Virginia having 12 additional Congressional Districts.

If this is the case, then there should be several open seats for the 2010 elections. Right now, the question is when will the Obama Administration get this error fixed. It is quite embarrassing when their pet project fails to accurately pinpoint how much money each of the 11 districts in the Commonwealth of Virginia will receive.

Special Elections in the 8th and 37th State Senate Districts

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

With the recent victories of Ken Stolle (Virginia Beach Sheriff) and Ken Cuccinelli (Attorney General), there are two State Senate seats open and special elections will be held for both parties.

According to Bearing Drift, there will be a firehouse primary at a location and time to be determined on December 5, 2009 in the 8th District, which encompasses Virginia Beach. The two candidates running in the 8th District are Virginia Beach City Councilwoman Rosemary Wilson and businessman Jeff McWaters.

In the 37th District, there are three candidates vying for the Republican nomination in a Firehouse Primary that will take place at Centreville High School on December 1, 2009 from 6-10 p.m. According to NoVa Tea Party Patriots, the three candidates are: Former EPA Administrator Marianne Horinko, Former Fairfax County School Board Member, Steve Hunt, and Will Nance.

Nye and Perriello: Are they Vulnerable?

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Some would say that Virginia’s Congressional delegation could be changing significantly in 2010.

The two most vulnerable Democrats are Tom Perriello, who represents the 5th District, and Glenn Nye, who represents the 2nd District. Both Nye and Perriello are considered vulnerable due to their voting record. Perriello is upsetting a primarily conservative district with his recent toe-the-party line vote on Pelosi’s health care plan, while Nye is facing some heat from Democratic operatives for his recent vote for the Stupak Amendment and his vote against the health care plan.

J.R. Hoeft at Bearing Drift has a great post detailing the potential problems that could be facing both Nye and Perriello in 2010, especially since the 2009 elections proved to be very successful for the Republican party in their districts.

Right now, if the elections were held today, there is no doubt that both of these Congressmen would be preparing their concession speeches.

Tim Kaine’s New Nickname

Friday, November 13th, 2009

How does Governor in Name Only (GINO) sound to you? Well, Governor Tim Kaine has been more focused on fundraising for Democrats in Arkansas than focusing on what is happening in Virginia. On Wednesday, Kaine issued a State of Emergency Declaration due to the heavy rain and flooding associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Ida, then he traveled to Arkansas for a fundraiser. I guess dealing with fundraising is more important than the job Kaine was elected to do.
