From the Dems Playbook…

Thursday, February 7th, 2013

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal was out of line in using only half of the Sam Francis phrase, when he said the Republican Party was the stupid party….the rest of that sentence is “and the Democrat Party is the evil party.” One should never be used without the other. Having said that, one must wonder why the Republicans continue to self inflict political wounds one right after another.

We learned a couple of weeks ago that Virginia Republicans mimicked the move of Senate Democrats, as they timed the redistricting bill when certain Democrats would be absent for the vote to pass. The Senate Republicans gave themselves some districts that would help in the upcoming elections. Sound slick? The Dems did exactly that in 2011 and this bill would have corrected that.

If one assumes that Speaker Howell wants Republicans to win seats in the Legislature, this bill would have helped. However, he pulled it back demonstrating once again that Howell Republicans will find a way to hand the Democrats victories in return for a pat on the back and a loud “aata boy.” Well, Speaker Howell deprived some of us our moment of delight to see that some Republicans somewhere in this new political atmosphere made a bold attempt to correct some of the damage the evil Party has perpetrated. I hope the smart ones that put the redistricting bill forward will find a way to get it done and they deserve the support of their fellow citizens for trying….We are taking names!

Virginia Republicans need to be bold before the November elections roll around…

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

One wonders if there is any “fight” left in the Republican party. Virginia offers signs of hope in this regard and answers the question: “What would the Democrats do, if they had been soundly trounced?” Answer: Look for ways to hold onto your seats against the coming onslaught in the coming fall elections.

A surprise State Senate redistricting plan has the Democrats “in an uproar and threatening to derail a transportation funding fix” as stated by The Washington Post. While the transportation bill is needed, so is the strength of the Republican party in Virginia, which is now the crown jewel upon which Obama and his team have their collective eyes focused. The redistricting bill would offer one more solid Democrat district and help Republicans gain strength in about eight.

Republicans in all states have shown an amazing ability to back down when threatened by the Dems, and we are watching this one with great interest as November is not that far away. In 2011, the Democrats had no problem pushing through gerrymandered districts when they controlled the Senate. It appears that the Virginia House Speaker is in the hot seat on this one. Hopefully, the chicken littles already lining up to cave will have other issues to deal with on the day of the vote.

HB 10 Moves Forward

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Del. Bob Marshall (R-Manassas) recently introduced HB10: The Health Care Freedom Act, and there is good news to report from the House of Delegates. HB10, which will ensure the individual’s right to participate in the health care process and exempt Virginia out of the President Obama’s health care plan (should it become law), was passed out of the Commerce and Labor Committee yesterday with a vote of 8-2 and 1 not voting.

This is good news, and the bill will be heard before the House of Delegates in the next week.
