Special Election TODAY in the 8th and 37th State Senate Districts

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Today (January 12), there are two special elections to fill State Senate seats in the 8th and 37th Districts.

Jeff McWaters is running against Bill Flemming in the 8th, which is located in Virginia Beach. McWaters is looking to replace former State Sen. and newly elected Virginia Beach Sheriff Ken Stolle in this seat.

In the 37th State Senate District, which includes Centreville, Burke, parts of Springfield, and parts of Fairfax, Steve Hunt is taking on current Delegate Dave Marsden in the quest to replace Ken Cuccinelli in the State Senate. Cuccinelli will be sworn in as Virginia’s next Attorney General on Saturday.

Voter turnout is expected to be low in both elections. From my observations, I voted in the 37th District this morning at 7:45 a.m., I was voter 82. Poll workers said this could be a very low turnout. If you live in either one of these districts, I urge you to get out and vote today. You can vote at your normal polling location, and the polls close at 7 p.m.
