This primary will select the Republican nominee to face off against Democrat Dave Marsden in the special election to fill the seat left vacated by Ken Cuccinelli, who was elected as Attorney General.

According to Bearing Drift, there will be a firehouse primary at a location and time to be determined on December 5, 2009 in the 8th District, which encompasses Virginia Beach. The two candidates running in the 8th District are Virginia Beach City Councilwoman Rosemary Wilson and businessman Jeff McWaters.

In the 37th District, there are three candidates vying for the Republican nomination in a Firehouse Primary that will take place at Centreville High School on December 1, 2009 from 6-10 p.m. According to NoVa Tea Party Patriots, the three candidates are: Former EPA Administrator Marianne Horinko, Former Fairfax County School Board Member, Steve Hunt, and Will Nance.
